Amazon Storage Gateway can be useful in implementing extended storage solution for your Enterprises
I was talking to CIO of a company about their existing issues in backup requirements and came to know that they incur huge cost in setting up the data protection mechanism by purchasing expensive hardware devices and software.
They currently use IBM Tivoli Storage Manager and DS4700 Expansion and they backup about 5 TB of data every month!
So every incremental and full backup will call for more storage devices which are expensive and also the system administrators who need to take care of DR activities!
When I suggested them to go for AWS based storage solution which does not need on premise storage devices, system administrators and would not even need a storage management server such as IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, they were interested to know how this will solve their problems.
Solution is simple. Use AWS storage gateway which comes as an image on a VM that can be easily deployed on a machine on premises and uses AWS S3 as storage! And do you know how much is the cost of having this solution? It’s just $125 per month.
