XML Data Converter
In the changing Internet economy, applications are required to talk
to each other across the world, and irrespective of their existing formats
& platforms. XML has emerged as the standard data format, which is recognized
b y all the platforms & applications across the world. So in order to
support this network applications the organizations require their databases
to be in XML, & already an enormous amount of data is present in proprietary
database formats.
The porting of the data is going to be huge market in coming few years.
'The XML data converter' aims at this market. It's an application, which
convert most of the proprietary database formats (DB2, Oracle, Ingress,
SQL server etc) to XML.
e-Zest has developed the solution of XML data converter in Visual Basic
and Perl. The current solution is supported by most of standard RDBMS
like MS Access, SQL server, Oracle, Visual FoxPro. The Java version
of XML data converter utility is in development phase.
The idea is to create the XML file out of every RDBMS, with the DTD
for storing the Database structure. SO this XML file conversion utility
contains 2 Parts:
- Data Import Utility
- Data Export Utility
The software has following features/Functionalities:
DATA IMPORT
UTILITY
This utility needs the input:
- Database Type (Access/SQL/FoxPro/ PostGreSql)
- Database Table Structure
- DB Connection Provider etc (needed to connect to dB And access Data)
- Target file Name (Xml file Name)
IT Gives the Output as the XML file with the Data inside it As:
1. The Conversion utility reads the data structure and makes the DTD
and constraints.
2. The Data is migrated in XML file format with the filed name as the
tag, for each record of the Table.
3. The XML file itself now becomes the self-explanatory information
container.
DATA EXPORT UTILITY
It
accepts the XML file as input and requires the following information
- XML file with the DTD as the data validity checks and Table Structure
information
- dB Type
- dB Connection Provider
- DSN Name (dB specific Information)
It gives the output as the restored Data in the proper dB Tables.
- The data that is converted from any of the DBMS
- The same dB structure is restored with the valid data, as per the
dB rules specified in DTD.
Industries in which this tool can be implemented: Banks, Financial
institutions, Government organizations, Hospitals, Public sector units,
Private sector businesses & any entity which has a legacy database will
require this tool to convert it to platform independent data i.e. XML.
